Superman Unlimited #1 pg 23 / Art by Rafael Albuquerque / DC Comics - May 21, 2025 

Happy Superman day and with the recent excitement of the Superman 75 (Death of Superman issue) artwork being auctioned off, I'm happy to add my first pieces from Rafael Albuquerque. An affordable way to scratch the nostalgia itch and pick up some great art.

Dan Slott returned to DC with a great first issue retelling some iconic moments from Superman's history and from my childhood (and many of our childhoods) with beautiful art from Rafael Albuquerque. The top panel recants that memorable moment in Sup's history with Lois holding a dying Superman amongst the battle-baked rubble of Metropolis. The middle panel cuts ahead to Superman's successors and the final panel with Superman's inevitable return. Albuquerque's use of spotted black and textures work well to add weight and emotion.

Superman should have started wearing the Eradicator's sunglasses after returning from the dead.  That would have been a way cooler look than the mullet.

I love this page from start to finish. This one is a real stroll down memory lane retelling such a significant event from Superman's storyline. That top panel especially is killer!
