Although I have already made my CAF upload for this month I recently came across this photograph I took at the United Kingdom Comic Art Convention 1988 (“38 years old”, as one esteemed comic art dealer might exclaim) and today seems to be as good a day as any, and better than most, to post it.
If you are the third person in the picture and are a famous comic creator then you will have to forgive me for not crediting you – I do not recognise you.
Something else I do not know is what is giving Dave Gibbons so much amusement. Perhaps John Byrne has just handed him the script for the one-page strip he is to draw and that will feature in the fiftieth issue of She-Hulk that will be published 5 years from then in 1993, which is to date, and as far as I know, the only collaboration between them. I do not own the OA for that page although I do have the published comic.
Ta very much to Dave Gibbons and John Byrne for their presence at UKCAC ’88, and also for their presents, ie John Byrne’s page which featured in the 1988 programme, and all of Dave Gibbons’ art contributions during the course of UKCAC’s lifetime which were all auctioned in aid of charity. Thanks also to Richard Barker, Frank Plowright, and Hassan Yusuf – the organisers of UKCAC ’88.
