Our Army at War #206 Battle Album (1969) by Barr

A fine album piece that is not only exciting, but also educational!  Without the internet, this would have prompted the reader to go to the library to go down the rabbit hole and do research! 

An incredible aerial scene, defined by the intricately detailed planes. Ken Barr was really on top of his game when he drew this piece!

This looks so nice art wise. My fav Battle Album scene so far! Even the published one looks incredible with how it was colored for me. Congrats! I will have to circle back to the Battle of Britain movie and give it a proper go per your recommendation, I believe I've seen portions of it when I was younger but it's been too long for me to remember.

I am not sure if I was your underbidder, but I wanted this one for my Spitfire gallery...ah well, at least I know where to stare at this great DPS!! We are lucky, I didn't read the page well or notice the Bader markings, which would have elicited a higher bid - I have a cool pair of pages about him!

It's a terrific piece and I think it may have been Barr's first assignment for Joe Kubert. I've always suspected that the four page story by Barr in the same issue, lacking a K number, was a portfolio sample that Kubert purchased.

While Bader flew Spitfires before and after, during the Battle of Britain he flew Hurricanes.

These spreads are so much fun. Wonderful action with the planes. Especially like the two diagram insets showing views from all sides of the planes. Feels a bit like what one sees on a video game screen. But long before they existed.
