Fling Magazine Cartoon "Before the Wedding" by Stabler.  Original Vintage Cartoon Pen and Ink and Watercolor Wash on Illustration, Published in Fling Magazine and from the Fling Magazine Archive. Measures 11 inches x 8.5 inches Fresh off the acquisition of the Marty Murphy Estate Collection, the David Lawrence Gallery acquired the entire remainder of the Fling Magazine Artwork Archive in 2025. The Fling Magazine archive had has an extensive amount of original vintage artworks and cartoons produced in the magazine from 1957 to 1995. Fling had a thirty-eight year history of publications with over 350 magazines. Fling magazine was published in several iterations from 1957 to 1995, with an initial digest-sized version, followed by a full-sized Fling Festival from 1959-1962, then back to Fling (continuing numbering from Festival) until 1993, and finally a four-issue run as Fling International in 1995. The publication, founded by Relim Publishing Company in Chicago, was an attempt to replicate Playboy's success and was known for featuring both risque content and short stories by authors such as Charles Bukowski. The first run saw 17 digest issues published between 1957 and 1960. In parallel a full-size magazine titled Fling Festival ran for 8 issues from 1959 to 1962. The title then reverted to Fling, initially with numbering continued from Fling Festival and continued as such until 1993. The magazine was created as a male-oriented publication to compete with the success of Playboy. While known for its risque content, it also published literary works, including several short stories by Charles Bukowski between 1970 and 1986. RARE, Price $650
