Creator of "Popeye" Near Death

Santa Monica, California.....E.C. Segar, world-famous cartoonist, creator of "Popeye the Sailor", who is reported near death at his Santa Monica, California home, is shown here in a recent portrait. His physician, Dr. Raymond Stands, today, October 13th, said that Segar may not live more than 48 hours. The artist has been ill several months. He was recently taken to the Santa Monica Hospital, but had to be returned to his home. His illness was described as a rare ailment affecting the spleen.
