Adam Pollina - Sam and Tabitha Date Night

Like a lot of people I discovered Adam's work through X-Force way back in the day. X-Force being one of my favorite books as teenager, I was an instant fan.

Now Cannonball was and still is one of my favorite characters and I always loved the relationship he and Tabitha had back in the day. And I know they aren't together anymore but I was rooting for them back then.

So when I hit Adam up for a commission, it was pretty clear that I wanted something with Sam and Tabitha from the 90's era. The question was if it should be an action piece, Cannonball and Boomer (though I liked the Meltdown look too) fighting... or something more character driven. I am a sucker for quiet moments and Adam suggested Date Night in Chinatown, so we went with that. Right choice imo.

This kind of went above what I expected. We get to look in on a quiet moment. I like to imagine that Tabitha is telling Sam about her day while breaking apart her chopsticks and Sam is just completely smitten. I mean look at that expression. I also love how their legs are intertwined. They just seem really happy.

I also really love the framing using the greys and the graphic elements that Adam used. It's one of the things I always remembered and loved about his art, the use of framing elements to pull the eye. Big fan.

And on a side note, Adam is super easy to work with and super nice. One of the best commission experiences.
