I love Bryan Lee O'Malley's art - so clean, fun and cartoony. But behind his art are deeply moving stories that show us ourselves - our fears, hopes, anxiety, etc. In his underrated novel Seconds, a follow up to his Scott Pilgrim success, Bryan may just be holding up a mirror to himself and how he was feeling after the whirlwind that was Scott Pilgrim. This page showcasing the main character Katie, does a great job of capturing her angst and interiority.

A cool follow up to the Scott Pilgrim series. A period of time in O'Malley's llife where he left the book on a high and saw the movie come out at the same time period. A new challenge awaited as creators have to create.

For someone who enjoys cooking and Bryan's art, it's a mystery how I still haven't read Seconds yet. I remember it being "not Scott Pilgrim" when it came out, but pages like this remind me how good of a storyteller Bryan is. Congrats!
