Large Wizard Plate illustration 1980s early 1990s Tolkien Inspired?

Michael Herring did a ll the covers for one round of published Tolkien novels. He also worked for Bradford Palte exhange at various times doing paintings for collector plates. It is marked on back Bradford Plate Exchange Wizard plate .



While this reminds me of a scene from Lord of the Rings the Wizard's claok is the wrong color suggesting that Bradford possibly gave him the idea for the scene but told him to do the cloak in a different color to avoid licensing costs!



In spite of touting their plates as investments  icouldn't find this one anywhere so I don't know if it was used or not



Details: The canvas is 30 by 30 inches and the image fills most of it- it is acrylic on canvas mounted to waht seems to be  foam core with a reinofrced back - upper right hand corner is dinged and some soiling to lower right hand corne both are under where a matte would be if matted - some rippling in t he cnavas where it seems to be getting detached from the foam core . If I was going to keep it I would have it relined - unfortubately the new house does not have space for it on the walls so sadly I am letting it go
