442nd incarceration camp by Tony Moy

      Tony Moy created a comic book about the Japanese American military unit. I met the cartoonist at Fan Expo San Francisco in 2024 and discussed the project. This focuses on the recovery of another unit trapped by the Germans. Clan McDonald offered the opportunity to purchase the comic book with a sketch and I was happy to purchase the comic. This comic book version serves as an introduction and concentrates on future Senator Daniel Inoye as a young man. For the remarques, Tony drew one soldier and this depiction of a camp where Japanese Americans were locked up behind barbed wire fences with menacing guard towers. The buildings were wooden shacks with each family forced to share a single living space.<br>
      A number of Japanese American cartoonists have created comics about their experiences in the camps. Animator Willie Ito illustrated a friend's story Hello Maggie and created an animated film. I read an illustrated oral history of six Japanese American veterans from Washington and Oregon. Artist Chiura Obata illustrated Topaz Moon about his incarceration experiences. Actor George Takei and his collaborators created the graphic novel They Called Us Enemy. The book is the selection for this year's One Book, One Coast reading program promoted by 130 libraries on the West Coast.
