Funky Winkerbean 05/30/2003 and 05/31/2003 - John Byrne

This piece was one of those wonderful CAL miracles, I had been on the lookout for one of these for years, and Jim Warden happened to list one at the most recent Comic Art Live!  Thank you so much, Jim!!  I love the Comic Art Live events, sure there are familiar pieces from recent auctions, CALs past, and CAF classifieds, but in my experience there are ALWAYS gems I've never seen before to be found.  

For those not aware John Byrne guested on Funky Winkerbean a few times over the years.  The most significant being a 10 week run in 2003 where these strips featured.  Both are from the storyline where it's revealed that Wally Winkerbean has been a P.O.W. in Afghanistan and picks up when he is alone having escaped from his captors and is found by a young Afghani girl who helps lead him to freedom.
