Rip Kirby Daily 1948-01-02

Alex Raymond was such an amazing artist.  I fell in love with his work when I discovered the Flash Gordon hardback collections in the library when I was a kid.  I fell into the wonder and beauty of his alien worlds.  It is exciting to see how his talent translates to a rooftop standoff between agent Kirby and an armed thug.  The tension, the flight, the flying tackle, then the struggle at the end, beautifully framed in the shape created by the silhouette of the policemen.  What a craftsman.

Hi Steven - thanks for your comments. We obviously feel the same way about Raymond's talent.  I would love to own a Flash Gordon Sunday some day - a grail piece indeed!

What was I thinking??? I loved all the elements in this one.  Hope you enjoy as much as I did.  This one almost got framed and put on the wall of forever keepers! Lol

Amazing use of Bricks as rendered by Raymond in reverse negative!  If it was Police Squad, they'd actually be right next to each other in the first two panels!
