DescriptionThis is a page by Bill Woggon. It appeared in Katy Keene Pin-Up Parade #11 on page 39.I wanted to find my middle daughter a special gift for her 18th birthday. Something that would have meaning for both of us. It took me a long time to find the right thing. I wasn't sure what to get; she had lots of ideas; not one of which matched my criteria for a good gift. After much searching without a particular idea, I found this page. Lo and behold, it features everything I could want in a picture for this daughter. It has her favorite animal (panda) and her favorite comic book character (Katy). It was drawn by that character's creator. Not only that, but it was and is in beautiful drawing in wonderful condition on bright white paper. This was the perfect match - Katy, a panda, and Bill Woggon. I couldn't believe I found such a piece. So, I bought it and had it framed. She seemed pretty happy about it. Not long ago, she said something about it that really made me happy. She told me that the longer she has this picture on her wall the more she likes it. Can't get much better than that if you're a dad giving a gift of art to a teenager. Thanks for taking a look. Leave a comment and tell me what you think. Update 1 - John Sterling Lucas told me that the piece was not by Woggin as I assumed, but rather by Tom Cooke. John wrote: This Katy Keene art was done for Bill Woggon by Tom Cook (sic) who did a few stories for him when asked. Cook(sic) did mostly outlandish adventure or travel stories for Woggon - such as this one. You can see the difference in style from Woggon's and Cook's(sic). Later John added: Maybe I shouldn't have said anything on this - but it is STILL Katy Keene and it DID appear in - what are those initials? - are those K. K. PUP #11? - Katy Keene Pin-Up Parade #11 ? With Woggon's approval obviously - and Woggon DID directly personally hire the guy - I was told this from Bill himself - to help Bill with his volume of work - So do not be let down, Alex - Katy is still Katy ! Still later, he added: "It's a wonderful piece of art and the accompanying pages serve it well. Woggon thought his art that involved animals came across as too cartoony so he hired others to help him out sometimes - Tom Cook loved adventure stories and drew animals well - I believe he went on to do other related art in other comics and other publications - or so I was told by Woggon." Update 2 - I've added images of the other pages from this story. They are (as of this writing) available from Art4Comics. Update 3 - Click the image to see a piece done by Bill Woggon and Cassie Bill. ![]() Social/Sharing |

It's interesting how much flow and design and movement these Katy pages have, for what is essentially "paper doll" artwork. Some really nice stuff here.
