this double-page splash is from pages 4 and 5 of Weapon X #4, published in 1995. The issue is titled "Into the Maelstrom!" and was a key chapter in the legendary Age of Apocalypse multi-title crossover event. The tight scripting by Larry Hama, translated through Kubert’s explosive pencils and the deep, rich inks of Dan Green, represents one of the strongest creative teams of my comic book generation.

During the mid-to-late 1990s, Adam Kubert helped redefine Wolverine’s visual identity. Moving away from polished superhero aesthetics, Kubert emphasized Logan's feral, untamed nature. The massive, screen-dominant close-up on the left panel perfectly encapsulates this era's style: heavily detailed, hyper-aggressive facial expressions, a smoking cigar, and wildly exaggerated, voluminous hair that became a hallmark of '90s Marvel art

In this alternate timeline, Logan does not use his traditional title. Instead, he goes by the codename Weapon X .This spread stands out because it vividly presents the character's unique AoA visual hallmarks—most notably his missing left hand, which was severed by Cyclops in this reality, and distinct facial tatoos. My favorite part of AOA was the mystery of Jean and Logan finally being together! even if it was in a dying world
