Captain Britain #1 First Appearance Cover (Marvel UK, 1976)

One of the most important debuts of the Bronze Age, Marvel's premier British hero -- Captain Britain -- makes his very first appearance right here on the cover of his own new anthology series! Brian Braddock was the only character in the title to receive new stories week after week, underscoring his role as the magazine's headlining hero. Here we find Captain Britain, empowered by the Amulet of Right (seen around his neck in the corner-box art), swinging his quarterstaff at a gaggle of armor-clad goons as he defends the United Kingdom in the Arthurian tradition. The hero would eventually become a founding member of the UK-based X-Team Excalibur, while his sister Betsy (whose debut was still to come in issue #8) actually crossed the pond to join the X-Men as the now fan-favorite Psylocke.
