DescriptionThis is the final pencil transferred onto a 20"x30" sheet of cold pressed Dbl Thick Bainbridge #80 illustration board. With a 1" border all around the final painting will measure 18"x28". I like the cold pressed Bainbridge Board's texture, which has just enough "tooth" (surface texture) to grab the paint and keep streaking to a minimum. I've used this board since the day I began painting, and consider it as much a tool as the brushes I use. I don't prime the board with gesso or any other support as I tend to work in washes much of the time, and like the minor absorbtion of the bare board. I think the biggest error people make who are unfamiliar with acrylics is applying them much heavier than necessary. They dry much too quickly for use in a thick impasto technique if you are looking to get a great amount of detail into a piece. The only people I've ever seen use them in that fashion to great result are the Hildebrandts.I was asked to add a little more title space to the top of the image. I think it compromises the composition, as well as the feeling of height, but it's a publishing necessity. When I do prints of it, I'll probably crop it back to it's original dimensions.Social/Sharing |
