Now we start blocking in the colors for the background. It's a rainforest, so I'm going to try for a misty, humid environment. Foliage tends to be very deep, so direct sunlight would be obscurred, for the most part. I'm planning on lots of green in the foreground, so I'm keeping the background bluish in nature, which will contrast the green, and also help project the humidity. The tree is painted in on a diagonal, which by design helps give a little rhythm and movement to an otherwise inanimate object. I want the feeling of Sheena being high up in the trees, so I make sure that the base of the tree is way below the bottom of the visible image. Some foilage is loosely indicated behind the lower part of the tree to help add depth to the background.
