DescriptionI went out to Super-Con sorta cash poor, and I didn't really think I'd pick up any art, but SanJulián's pile of sketches was too tempting. Now it had already been gone over by a few dealers, but they had no idea what this piece was. Bad luck for them, lucky for me...on the back of the Cover # 14 sketch is a date of 1971'...(I'll post a larger scan of the cover drawing & a shot of the back of it with SanJulián's notes)Social/Sharing |

WOW Mike!, Great Score, I Went Through His Art And Did Not See That One But Then I Got Blinded By Conan And By The Time My Vision Came Back You Probably Already Had This! Congrats On Another Great Piece In Your Collection

Great detailed sketch. Say this on his sight before he was at San Diego. Glad it is at good home. A nice tip of the hat to Frazetta as-well.

This is such a great piece of history. Sanjulian has told me that with his early Vampi covers he would come up with the concept first and often, if Warren accepted the cover he'd commission a strip to be drawn later, based on the picture. But it was always the cover which came first- straight from his imagination. And what an imagination....
