Okay I'll start by saying that Gary Erskine is the world's most apologetic artist... ever!
The guy before me in the line for Gary got an amazing pencil sketch of Greg Feely (the lead character from Grant Morrison's "The Filth") and as I was enjoying that series I figured I'd ask for a sketch of my favourite character - the Soviet assassin ape, Dmitri-9!
Firstly Gary starts by apologising that Dmitri-9 is Chris Weston's character and that he doesn't think he'll do a good job (Chris was the penciller on the series and Gary was the inker)! Then he apologises because he's going to have to use the original pages (which he whips out of his portfolio) for reference! After about ten minutes of sketching in pencil he apologises again because he feels it's not working and he's going to have to use a pen instead! He carries on apologising about various things until after probably 45 minutes of sketching he apologises for taking so long!
So far this is, without a doubt, my favourite piece of art in the whole sketchbook - and I'd love to see what Gary can do when he doesn't feel the need to apologise for it!
