Description

John Byrne.. Namor #1 cover color blueline
I painted this years ago for Marvel as a Promo poster ,it was liked so much by Marvel & John Byrne that they used it for the actual cover for Namor#1. It 11 by 17 and looks 1000 % better in person and is also signed by John Byrne and me Tom Smith "Avengers/JLA Colorist at large!
. Blue lines are a lot like animation cels .. They are one of a kind hand paintings that was auctally scanned by Marvel and used as the final color art for the poster. This is not the original B&W art colored ! But it is hand color by the colorist on a blueline copy of the art with an acetate overlay of the line art over it. It was the process used for high quality comic projects before the days of comic computer color and is very rare and highly collectable. I also colored Hulk "Future Imperfect" like this too. It also looks great hanging on a wall. This is what a blueline is.. Like an animation cel the black line art is copied twice, once on an acetate overlay and once as a non reproducible blue ink blueline. These are sent to the color artist "me" to paint the blueline. I paint it in acrylic paint with brush, airbrush, and watercolors. The acetate blk line overlay is then taped over the blueline for photographing or scanning by Marvel comics. The color blueline is the actual final art then used for the real cover or poster. But now with computer color the norm in coloring of comics these days Blueline is not being done anymore. So they are quite rare and one of a kind. I have a lot of collectors buying the color blueline and then finding the original B&W art and hanging them side by side for a great display of comic art. S&H is covered by buyer . I only accept Paypal
