Description

This one is an oddity. According to the previous owner (Berke Breathed's Step-Mom), since this daily's original publication on February 18, 1989, it hasn't been seen by fans and never reprinted in any Bloom County book! How neat is that?! Please feel free to contact me if this is incorrect.

According the Berke's Step-mom, the story behind the Opus strip is:

"Berkeley, his dad and I were having lunch one day in Evergreen, CO after we had all moved there back in the late 80's. I was telling Berkeley that my boys were surprised that I had learned to ski because I could not "walk and chew gun at the same time". Berkeley said, "well you can rub your tummy and pat your head can't you?" I told him I could not and he proceeded to show me how to do it. About a month later, there was Opus in the strip trying to rub his tummy and pat his head and he fell down and hurt himself."

The personal story from Berke's mom is the best part! Should finally be reprinted now in Bloom County: The Complete Library, Vol. 5, though.
