Description
Golden's work in Star Wars #38 was originally an inventory art/story. It has become one of the popular classic Marvel issues due to Golden's gorgeously rendered artwork. Issue #38 was supposed to be the start of The Empire Strikes Back adaptation, but Marvel pushed the issue back a month for distribution reasons and Golden’s one and only Star Wars fill-in issue took its place. This page is just jam-packed with action and fantastic technical details that only Golden can pull off. I especially love the middle panel with the Tie-Fighter pilot inside the cockpit, in fast pursuit of Luke’s ship. You can see the influence from one of the early Star Wars production paintings by concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.

It wasn't popular with all kids: when I read this issue, I HATED it. I didn't think the stars looked like they were supposed to, I didn't think the ships looked like they were supposed to, etc. Now, many years later, it's one of my favorite stories, but back then all I was was upset that I didn't get the promised adaption of "Empire Strikes Back" in that issue. Congrats on getting a great piece of artwork!
