Description
Claus D. Scholz began his career as a shop-window decorator in Wolfsburg, Germany. His true passion were comics however, and Scholz left for Antwerp to join the Vandersteen studios in 1972. Vandersteen was not in need of anyone, so he was introduced to Frank Sels. For seven years, he cooperated with Sels on the scenarios and inking of 'Zilverpijl', a series for the German market. From 1979, Scholz did some short stories and illustrations in Tintin, all in the western genre. He also did about 150 covers as well as television and film satires for the German Marvel.

In the mid 1980s, he pencilled and inked about 30 'Bessy' stories and adapted several stories for the 'Karl May' series. He also drew stories of his own. He was present in the Dutch Robbedoes with 'James Leigh' in 1983. In 1989, he also did a 'James Leigh' story for the Suske en Wiske Familiestripboek. Scholz did illustration work for the Zuid-Nederlandse Uitgeverij from 1985 to 1995. He cooperated on the series 'Bakelandt' since 1986, and wrote some short stories for the Dutch girls' magazine Tina. Scholz took over the 'Rode Ridder' series together with Martin Lodewijk after the death of Karel Biddeloo (Bik) in 2004.
