Another big reason for me heading out to Texas was the chance to meet the new artist of The Legion of Super-Heroes, Barry Kitson. The last show he did in America was several years ago to help promote Empire with Gorilla Comics, but this would be the first time I'd meet him and hopefully, get a sketch.
I'd missed getting in line for Barry and Mark Waid on Friday, but I watched him doing some really nice sketches, including a pencilled full-figure of the new Sun Boy. Definitely got to get in line Saturday.
They were also handing out free copies of the Teen Titans/Legion Special where Legion editor, Steve Wacker would not only sign it, but also add Kitson's name to the cover where it belongs.
Almost all of Barry's sketches were either nice big busts or full-figures all in pencil too and I think everyone walked away very happy. Barry would even ask, "Are you happy with it so far?" before he'd finish a sketch and hand it to another satisfied fan. I watched him do a great Shadow Lass too. In fact, all of his women look cute and sexy and I even got a chance to read the whole first issue of LSH, while I was waiting in line. Waid and Kitson are definitely having a lot of fun with this one and it showed on every page.
Micro-Lad, instead of Collosal Boy, an androgynous Chameleon and some great re-designed costumes help make LSH a book to watch out for.
