In the Coils of the Captain - Aquaman vs Cap'n Squidd

This is the first piece that I commissioned from Val Semeiks (http://www.valsemeiks.com/index.htm). When I saw the great commission that Val did for Marvel Two-In-One 76 Guy featuring a submerged Thing and his Inhuman co-star Triton battling members of the Serpent Squad, I knew I had to get one for myself!

Val drew the JLA: Incarnations miniseries back in 2001. Issue #4 leads off with Aquaman and Zatanna battling Captain Squidd and his first-mate, Whaleboy (“I keep telling you, it’s Killer Whale!”) I just loved Val’s design for the good Captain so I asked for a scene pitting the King of the Seas against the Marauding Man-Mollusk. I asked Val to depict Squidd brandishing a cutlass and Aquaman struggling in his tentacled grip but beyond that I left it up to Mr. Semeiks. You just gotta love his “battle atop the mast” nod to old Hollywood pirate movies! Get on Val’s commission list today!
