Description

Marat Mychaels did one of the first Spider-Wing pieces for me back in 2001, he was the second professional artist to do one for me, and the first one with a background. This one has always been one of my favs.

Quick recap, (Taken from Marat's web site) - At 13 while at a local comic book convention he met Rob Liefeld (16 at the time) the two struck up a friendship and kept in touch. Years later as Rob was working on Marvel's New Mutants he hired Marat as his assistant. It didn't take long before Rob realized Marat was ready to step up and start pencilling his own book…thus he offered Marat Brigade.

When I was looking for an inker for Marat's pencils, it donned on me, "Why not ask Marat?". Well, I did and Marat loved the idea of going back and working on a piece that he had pencilled 7 years previous, saying it was a rare opportunity to go back and fix mistakes that he made when he was younger.

Well, he wasn't kidding. On Spider-Man alone, he changed the placement of his head, adjusted the chest emblem, slimmed him down a little and changed a couple other tiny things. On Nightwing, he slimmed him down a lot, giving him more of the gymnast look that he should have. He also left a lot of the lines off his face making him look younger. While the wait was a little long, it was worth it. Marat was great to work with as far as setting the commission up and a really nice guy.

Great idea getting him to ink it. The changes are slight but improved an already nice piece of art! Congrats!

something about the interplay of black and white on this piece really makes it sing. It's got a perfect symmetry. Extraordinary!
