Description

A pretty early purchase in my art-collecting career, courtesy of Victor Nieves at a Lucca Comics con many years ago.

Of the Warriors Three, I've always been a big-time Hogun fan: the moustache, hard-nosed Charles Bronson features, and generally heavy-metal (he's The Grim, after all...) look always struck me as tougher than the Errol Flinn-based swashbucklery of Fandral.

This page, tho, just sang to me when I saw it: Fandral at his best, moking a throng of inept soldiers and slashing a swath through them. Kirby's composition made it survive the abysmal Colletta inks, but I can't help wondering what it would've been in the hands of Joe Sinnott, embellisher supreme.

Nothing beats Sinnott, but Colletta did a lot of nice work on those Thor stories. This page turned out great

Superbe example of Kirby at his best! One could use this page to teach how to make complex scenes with tons of characters dynamic, clear, and exciting. There's not a wasted mark of the page, and nothing there that doesn't belong. I also have to agree with a couple of other comments - I think Colletta's inks are rock solid here, and complement the pencils well.
