1 Favorite Character + 2 Comic Legends = 1 Happy Collector.
I remember when Erik Larsen took over on Amazing Spider-Man. I was living in Alaska and we didn't always get complete runs of titles because I lived on a small island and only the one grocery store carried comics, but Amazing was usually available. I loved his style and he instantly became one of my favorites.
Now, because of the limited availability, I didn't get the Spider-Man crossover, "Kraven's Last Hunt" until I moved to Seattle and bought the HC (which was my first HC). That's when I discovered Bob McLeod, one of the best inkers in the biz, and frankly an outstanding all around artist.
So, last year I was actually working towards getting an Erik Larsen 'Spider-Wing' commission, and was looking to save towards getting it until his rep told me that there was a higher price to include Spider-Man in the commission. Really? I'm sorry, but I had just ordered my Buscema 'Spider-Wing', and if Sal wasn't going to charge me extra for a Spidey piece, I wasn't paying anyone extra for a certain character. Nothing against Erik, but out of principle, I just can't.
So, when fellow CAF member Doug Resnick put this up for sale, I thought it was a great oppurtunity to get a Larsen Spidey and even better that it was inked by Bob. It took me a little while to pull the trigger, but I finally did and am very happy to add it to my collection. It definitely won't be the last McLeod piece I add to my collection.
