Description

I had done a trade for a sketch with Art a number of years ago (1999). When this piece arrived in the mail, my socks were permanently knocked off of my feet. I look at this drawing every day and am always in awe of it.

May 29, 2022 update: With thanks to Jyrki Vainio, I've just learned that this piece was published in Art's Meta Maus back in 2011. I've added a photo from the book courtesy of Jyrki.

I look at this whenever I visit and try to imagine what bit of wonderment you traded to get it. The art is amazing in and of itself; however, since I think Maus as one of the three most influential comic books of all time and that there is a scarcity of anything other than squiggly Maus head sketches, this beomes even more amazing to me.

One of the rarest and most atracting pieces I've seen in CAF. Congrats!

This has always been one of my favorite pieces on CAF. I'm not sure why it took me 10 years to comment on it. Thanks again for sharing it Rob!

I've admired this for years, and I'm surprised I did not leave a comment already. This is such a cool piece, Rob. Art must have really liked the book that you gave him.

Rob, I remember the first time I read Maus and how it moved me to tears.  To own a piece like this is a rare and beautiful treat.  I have met Art on several occasions and the closest I ever came to a treasure like this is the 2 sketches he did for me in Volumes 1 and 2 of the original Maus books.  I imagine you still take this out and stare at it every once in a while.  That's the beauty of true art--it never gets old.  Congrats on owning a museum level piece of Spiegelman art!

Thanks my friend.  Actually, the piece is framed and hanging right smack above my desk, so I get to view it every day, multiple times.  I'm still looking for my socks.

Discovered Maus bound into Raw Magazine, and loved it!  When I met my wife to be, she also had a copy of the collected Maus in her library.  True love!
