DescriptionThis wonderful and sensitive pencil drawing by Graef is from August 1917, and pictures a rough building, possibly in the middle of being constructed. There's wood stacked under the roof and in the front of the structure. There are also two lightly drawn figures at the right side. The piece is captioned "Russische Gefangene im Wurmwald" at the bottom, which translates to Russian Prisoners in the Worm Forest. I'm not exactly sure what the worm forest refers to, unless that was simply the name of the forested area, but I'm assuming that these are WWI prisoners-of-war.Social/Sharing |
