Description
I still think that "The Shadow War of Hawkman" and at least the first few issues of the 1986 series that followed it were among the best comic stories ever made. This is a page from #1 of the series, a page that nicely sums up the dilemma the Hawks find themselves in. Even with the hair and the dress, that Thanagarian woman sure looks mannish.

If you look in the letters column of that issue, you'll find a long (and edited) letter by yours truly praising Shadow War. This is a rare instance of solid evidence that I, at least at one time, was a comic book as opposed to a comic art fan.
