As 70's kids we took what we could get, and Bakshi was a preeminent animator. The 1978 animated flick only covered 1 1/2 books, but didn't even include a "Part 1" tag. It was almost as if Bakshi never really planned to complete the saga, which made for quite a wait until Peter Jackson! Apparently, there were a number of reasons for the lack of Part 2, which all should’ve been overcome when you gross $32.6M on a $4M budget!
