Description

I am not sure that I have the words. This beautiful piece was the last commission completed by Dave Simons. I received it from his sister Bette Simons today.

Not too long ago, I contacted Dave's friend and agent Bob Shaw. I had seen Dave's work on Dracula as well has his depiction of animals in Rampaging Hulk. I told Bob that I thought Dave was the man for this job. Bob agreed.

Thanks again to Bob for arranging this commission, Bette for locating it and sending it to me, and especially Dave for drawing it for me. Inherently notable to the end and beyond.

An incredibly bittersweet piece given the backstory on this one. What a great talent Dave Simons was, RIP.

That's beautiful. Dave told me about the art but wouldn't let me see it until it was finished. Dave, a professional right to the end - some artists out there could learn a lot from the lessons Dave has left. God I miss him.

A wonderful idea executed with just the right mix of serious action and tongue-in-snout humor and a wonderful testament to Dave's abilities with both pencil and brush.
