Description
"Mickey Finn" was a long-running strip distributed by the McNaught Syndicate. this strip has a date of 9-17 on it, but no year. a description of the strip that was used at an auction is attached to the back, and it says the strip is circa 1940s. but looking at the clothes the spectators are wearing, i'd say this could be anywhere from the 1940s to the 1960s. if anybody can help with this, i'd appreciate it. now, about where i got it: my son and i were attending a golf expo in denver in february 2009, and we bought my son a cleveland driver. the last thing i thought i'd be bringing home was original comic art. but there was a dealer there who had purchased this and one other panel at the auction years before. he was charging $20 for both, but all i had left after buying the driver was a 10-spot. so i had to decide which one i wanted. both dealt with Uncle Phil's experience in this golf tournament. i picked this one for a few reasons: 1) it had more golf action 2) i dig the clothes the spectators are wearing, especially all the hats. all the men dressed up in suits to watch golf. ... certainly different that what folks wear to sporting events today. 3) i LOVE that the antagonist is rocking a heater while he's playing in a golf tournament. freaking classic.
