Guardian - John Byrne

John Byrne is by far, one of my favorite artists of all time. The impact that he, through his art and storytelling, made on my childhood is so profound that it's difficult for me to adequately convey. It was a childhood dream of mine to actually own an original piece of his work, and when I discovered that, through his rep Jim Warden at DOA, it was actually a possibility, I jumped at the chance. I found that Jim was a true professional and a gentleman, helping me through the process of registering my commission with sensible grace. I chose for the subject of my piece my favorite male comic character of all-time from one of my favorite series of all-time, Alpha Flight's Guardian. I wanted him to be looking pensively at the cyber-helmet of his creation that would indelibly shape his future and that of Canada's greatest heroes in a sort of "Alas, Poor Yorick!" moment. To say that Mr. Byrne knocked it out of the park would be an absolute understatement. I hold this piece in my hands and still can't believe I own it. It's a childhood dream come true.
