Deja View blog
Andreas Deja is one of Disney's leading animators with supervising credits on Gaston, Jafar, Scar, Hercules, Lilo, and Mama Odie and her snake. The animator wrote and drew a limited edition book of Perrault's
Puss 'n Boots in 1994. He is the author of the 2016 book
The Nine Old Men: Lessons, Techniques, and Inspiration from Disney's Great Animators. Since leaving Disney, he created the animated short
Mushka about a Russian girl and a tiger.
A Different Stripe: Andreas Deja's Animal Sketchbook is published by my brother's
Stuart Ng Books and made its debut at the first CTN-X. I went to the signing line and Andreas drew Lilo for me on the title page.
The CTN-X is put on by Tina Price and her
Creative Talent Network. I talked to Disney director John Musker, Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken, sculpter Ruben Procopio, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and Danger Girls creator J. Scott Campbell. There were drawing demonstrations by Mignola, Campbell, Peter de Seve, Dean Yeagle, Derek Thompson, Bobby Chiu, and Kei Acedera. Some were done by traditional media and some were done digitally. CTN-X will become one of my regular events.
