I've been an LSH fan since the earliest days of my comic collecting life.
I got my first Adventure Comic featuring the LSH while sick with pneumonia in the 3rd grade and I've been hooked since. I own virtually every appearance from
Adventure 247 ($25 back in the day) to today.
The Legion of Super-Heroes remains my favorite team after more than 50 years. I was sad when Swan left the book; the
Shooter/Swan/Klein era is remains my favorite art era.
I was really upset when, shortly later, Adventure Comics was cancelled. I bought the heck out of the 3 issue reprint series trying to express my love (I was young, okay?), when it showed up in Action as a backup, I was happier, but it wasn't until Dave Cockrum took over that I was really happy.
The Dave Cockrum,
Mike Grell and
Michael (Mike Nasser) Netzer runs contributed mightily to my love the team.
Dave Cockrum was the first LSH artist after Curt Swan to really "own" the characters. Wildfire was one of his most fun characters and I was glad to get this off eBay.
I don't own any published pages by Dave; they are buried deeply. Worse, I came back to the comic scene and conventions, after a 10 year gap, too late to get a commission or sketch by Dave (really sad because I know now that he needed the work).
However, occasionally, you find something nice on eBay. My theme is artists and the characters I associate with them - Wildfire and Cockrum fits that really well.
