Marvel - August 1988

The Marvel Comics Presents Wolverine storyline, titled "Save the Tiger", ran from 1988 to 1989 and was written by Chris Claremont. The storyline started a few months before Wolverine volume #2 (the volume after the Miller/Claremont mini-series).

This issue was released inbetween Wolverine issues 1 and 2. This is the first time we see Logan in the new black costume in the MCP series and the third appearance of the black suit following the Marvel Age Annual 4 promo story and Wolverine 1. This is a beautiful full-page-splash from the amazing John Buscema and Klaus Janson. Wolverine questions a henchman outside of Roche's mansion.

I had the good fortune of meeting series writer, Chris Claremont at the 2013 New York Comic Con and was able to get Mr. Claremont to sign this piece.

Great page! I was a big fan of Marvel Comics Presents. This was a cool story with really fantastic work by Buscema & Janson. And you have to love Logan's tough guy dialogue & narration by Claremont.

Janson always seemed to know what to ink and what to leave, but by the late '80s his fluidity in little details of clothing and scenery had become very refined. This seems to give even greater emphasis to the figures and the action, laid out so superbly by Buscema. Wonderful splash!
