While the art on the heralded Claremont/Byrne/Austin X-men run is always a hot topic of conversation, lets not forget that Claremont's writing, always quite good, peaked during this run. The characters are well developed, thoughtful, emotional and quite human. Storm's comment on this page, "feel broiled" is just another gem of great writing in this terrific run. Congrats on another sweet page!

This age was imho the peak of its creative team, and this page is a great sample of it. I wish you could offer a nice scan of it. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Excellent example of Orzechowski's lettering techniques! Of course, the art and writing is now legendary!

I've admired your other galleries but never knew you had all the X-Gems.  I hope you have a 137 page too that you will share some day. Bravo Philip.

Kirk, it is funny that you mention this.  I used to own the 500th X-Men page that Byrne and Austin drew from this issue.  I ended up trading it away to Alan Bahr at Heroes Comics for the Miller Wolverine 1 page that I now own.  At the time, I was unsure if this was a good cash/trade deal.  As time went on, I was happy that I made this transaction.  Miller Wolverine pages are almost impossible to come by.

This does beg the question as to what happened to the solid gold tree?
