DescriptionThis is the original "camera ready" cover for Marvel's Greatest Comics #56, by Jack Kirby and inked by Joe Sinnott. It reprints Fantastic Four #74, which features both The Silver Surfer and Galactus. The actual artwork is a photostat because being a reprint book, the original art was not available at the time. A reverse photostat would be made from a negative stored in the Marvel archives. It would then be pasted up, alongside its new logo and text on what is called a "mechanical". Upon inspection, you will notice that the art extensions and touch-ups on this mechanical are original. Regardless of the photostat, this is THE ORIGINAL COVER (note the Comic Code Authority stamp on the back). The cover is 10" x 15" on a 11 1/2" x 17 1/2" board. The stains on the art are from the rubber cement glue used in the production of the mechanical.Social/Sharing |
