Superman 1

Great image! I'm essentially of two minds where Mike's superhero work is concerned. I loved Cosmic Odyssey and think it's some of Mike's best 80's era work, but somehow Mike doing superhero's always feels like an ill-fitting shoe. He's got the artistic chops to pull it off of course, but his style is too dark and 'chunky' to impart that sheen of larger than life ostentaciousness that works so well for super's in general. Again, love the sketch, but Mike doing superheroes (especially after so many years of seeing his style work right on Hellboy) will always seem slightly off to me.

I love this sketch and I really enjoyed Mike's SUPERMAN issue during the Byrne era (probably my favorite Byrne story). Congrats !
