Night on Bald Mountain - Marcio Takara

A few weeks ago I watched the movie Fantasia again. I have to say that watching a mostly serious animated movie by Disney is a real treat. They sure as heck don't make them like this anymore.

In the DVD commentary it was stated that the Night on Bald Mountain sequence was directed by an accomplished European animator. I forget his name. Apparently his specialty was animating hands - which you can see in the sequence. For anyone wondering apparently it's notoriously difficult to animate hands - which is why most animated characters have four fingers.

This character, Chernabog, whom is based on the "Black God" Chernobog from Slavic mythology is probably my favorite character from the movie. The sadistic and cruel nature of the character added with the dark and menacing animation is one of my favorite film sequences and favorite characters.
