DescriptionThis next page is my latest acquisition from the just completed Blackest Night #8. This will also be the first of my review issues. As far as Blackest Night, I thought it was pretty good. However, the ending kind of flared out. The "Big Battle" that could have taken place between the biggest dealer of death in the DC Universe, the Anti-Monitor and death itself, Nekron, was relegated to this one "You Go Home" page. Also, the entire creation of the other ROYGBIV corps pretty much amounted to nothing for the series (good advertising gimmick though). On advertising gimmicks, one of the best was the free color corps ring promotion. Most collectors have probably also heard of the "error rings", or rings that were found with the color not matching the symbol. Being a naturally psychotic collector, I started collecting these pretty late in the game in February. I'm bringing this up because one problem in collecting original comic art these days is the exponential increase in price. In the last few years I have been collecting, I have tended to specialize in some comic art pages, and have actually been the cause of some of this. I will bring this up later when I reach those "specialized" pages, but for now, some of you may have read about the Brightest Day errors rings that were green but had the Brightest Day symbol on them. One sold for $109.00, and was widely quoted on several comic blog sites. The latest sold for $126.62. Before this, you could buy the various other "error rings" from a low of $5.00 (the blue fear ring) to around $25.00-$35.00 for most of the others. However, when that $109.00 price hit the sites, the next batch of error rings, the white rings with the Lantern symbol, all stated out at $125.00-$200.00. I'd like to note, they are ON EBAY for that price, not actually being sold at that price. There was a movie back in 1986 (another 80s movie reference) called "The Best of Times" featuring Robin Williams and Kurt Russell. In this movie, Robin Williams "dropped the ball" literally. From the movie, some third-string wide receiver, that miraculously got open to catch the 65-yard Hail Mary pass for the winning touchdown as the clock expired - "But, that son of a bitch dropped it! I, was that son of a bitch.". On the error ring fiasco, I know the prices of $109.00 for the first rings since I bid it up that high. On the second ring with the record winning price of $126.62 for an error ring up to now, I know that price was the exact winning bid for that ring, because I, was that son of a bitch (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, YOU'RE VERY WELCOME)!!!Social/Sharing |
