Description
Orphan Annie ends its long run this year- this is where it began- from 1925 (the strip started in 1924) during the first year of publciation . Most of Grays artwork is archived i nboston University - they have very little from the first year though only ah andful of originals have appeared on the market. I have later Annie art done in the Gary Style by Tex Blaisdell for sale in my comic strips for sale gallery

It's historic nature notwithstanding, it's hard to sum up the essence of any dramatic comic strip in just one strip, but this one seems to do that quite nicely. The sun literally coming out is an especially nice touch.

Very nice original. I especially like the images of Annie's doll and first friend, Emily Marie. Even though the doll first appeared on November 5, 1924 and was in a number of strips before this one was published, just a little over a year later, I have never seen another original which shows her. Actually, the Mugar Library at Boston University has almost all the first year originals, which is why extremely few have ever turned up for sale.

Gray is among the early few that layed the foundation for all that came thereafter.
