Description
Beautiful pen and ink drawing by Roy G. Krenkel of shepherd and sheep. Nice example of the fine line work
on a completed piece.
George H. Scithers Collection

Roy Krenkel - original art

"A Summer Idyll"

From the collection of George H. Scithers, who died April 19, 2010. George was a well-known science fiction fan, author, and multi-Hugo Award winning editor whom just about everyone in the fantasy and science fiction field knew and respected for his contributions to the genre over the years, including myself (Jane Frank). He was a fixture at sf/f conventions, was Chair of several of them, and in 2002, along with Forry Ackerman, won a World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award.

This is an original pen drawing, undated, by Roy G. Krenkel, titled "A Summer Idyll". This is a very fine ink on paper, possibly ballpoint pen, signed RGK bottom right corner of the image, and titled by Krenkel top left. The sight size is 7.5" x 5" nicely matted and framed to c. 13.75" x 12.75" under glass.
Background on George H. Scithers: A long-time member of the World Science Fiction Society, George first began making waves when he started up his fanzine Amra in 1959 – winning a Hugo Award in the process. He was the first to use the term “Sword and Sorcery” to describe the stories and articles he published there, oriented to the writings of Robert E. Howard and others, and illustrated by artists such as Roy G. Krenkel. – whose artworks form part of the works to be auctioned in this sale. George went on to edit several major science fiction magazines (first editor for Isaac Asimov’s SF, Amazing Stories 1982-1986, and with John Gregory Betancourt and Darrell Schweitzer in 1988 he resurrected Weird Tales). He edited several anthologies, including Conan collections for Mirage Press – and founded Owlswick Press
