While we are on the subject of the Death of the Blue Beetle, we can also get in another "Death of Comic Art Collecting" subject. While I was selling a few of these pages, someone asked me why they had not lettering on them. This never really occured to me before, but comic book lettering is one of the most obvious of the comic book generation processes to be turned over to computers. Just happening to get these Countdown pages from 2005 along with the Hellblazer pages from 2000, and just from other Phil Jimenez pages I have owned, I place R.I.P. for the Comic Book Letter 2001. I am hard pressed to find any original comic art I own which actually has lettering on it now that was created after 2000. This includes both hand lettering directly on the art or on paste up word balloons. Personally, while I like the words on the art, if it is a nice piece, really do not care either way if it is lettered or no (unlike inking).
