One of my very favorite pieces with a pretty good story to go along with it. Along with the Nguyen Batman in my gallery, this is a true "grail" commission for this Batman fan. I finally acquired a commission from Tony in '09 after trying to get on his list for more than 7 years in Charlotte. This is better than I ever could have hoped for! The story: Tony's wife has a cousin that I was lucky enough to teach 5th grade with who was across the hall from me for the past ten years. Knowing the comic nerd/sketch collector/fan of Tony that I am, she would always tease me saying "I'm going to Atlanta this weekend to see my cousin and Tonyyyy..." and I'd tell her to get him drunk and challenge him to draw the coolest Batman sketch he could for her but for him to sign it to Jimmy....sadly that never happened. Last year @ Heroes Con I was first in Tony's line on day one. He greeted everyone and then said he'd done five or so sketches ahead of time that were for sale if you'd rather pick up one of those instead of taking your chances on his list )I remember a Starman piece, a Doc Strange, and the Mayor from Ex Machina). As luck would have it, I was there for a Batman sketch and this beauty was one of the ones already done (As he was setting up his table, Tony showed his pre-done sketches to writer Steven Niles who offered to buy the Batman if no one went for it-FAT CHANCE NILES!!!). Tony absolutely knocked this one out of the park on all fronts! It's truly amazing and captures the Dark Knight better than any Batman by Tony I've seen. The cape, the belt, the symbol, the gloves, the bats, and even the stubble all all just perfect. Thanks Tony!
