Description
Titled "The Phoney Gravure Section", this wonderful cartoon appeared on August 1, 1931. Done entirely in ink washes to emulate black and white photos, Sweigert presents the funny and phony news of the day. His work on this page reminds me a bit of Roy Crane's Wash Tubbs of the period.

These are all great, Rob! It's hard to pick a favorite, but I think I like this one best. It looks like he had a lot of fun with his lettering, too.

Holy cow! Rob, where do you find those treasures? Outstanding in every aspect! Incredibly well drawn, funny, intelligent, great layout & lettering, a unique & distinctive style. IMO, something like this can hold a candle to any Winsor McCay, George Herriman, John Held etc. masterwork. Proving again that some of the better art is not always the most expensive...
