I've always wanted a nice Godzilla example by Arthur. I thought for sure that it would come in the form of one of his Dark Horse covers. Unfortunately, the only ones I've ever seen available for sale haven't really been ones that I've liked. Then, a few years ago at the SD convention, I saw this page for sale. Talk about your unexpected sources! Not only is this piece NOT from the Dark Horse run, it's not even really Godzilla! I've always liked this issue by Arthur. I was disappointed that he didn't do the cover, but the interior story is one of my personal faves (although the coloring and printing of the comic sucked). I never really thought about collecting pages from this book because I had heard some time back that a collector in Canada was trying to put the whole story together and was paying big money for pages from it. I just assumed he got this splash as well. But now it's mine! And although it's technically a splash of the shape-shifting Warlock from New Mutants, I will always think of it as my ultimate Godzilla example! Thanks to Albert Moy for this one!

(2/11/06) Just got back from WonderCon 2006 where I picked up a copy of MODERN MASTERS #6, ARTHUR ADAMS and was delighted to see this piece included among the featured artwork. Very cool.

(5/26/06)Just finished reading the interview with Arthur in Back Issue #16 and found out something very interesting about this piece. According to Art and editor Mike Eury, this splash actually predates any other published Godzilla drawing, so it's officially the first time he ever drew the character for publication! How cool is that?

Well Steve, I'm actually of the opinion that no Art Adams collection is too big, only too small. heh-heh!

No worries my friend.  I guess when you have this many Adams pieces, some may tend to get lost in the shuffle.  Which is why when I do my all-Adams feature page for April, I try to mix it up a little each year.  I don't doubt for a second, if I posted this a new piece today, it would have a lot more than 7 comments.  But thanks for showing it some love today.  It's one of my favorites.

Thanks Mark!  You can probably tell from those people running at the bottom, that this was done during his Longshot and Classic X-Men days.  Of course he's a lot better with form and anatomy now, but there's still something magical about this mid to late 80's period for Arthur.  I think it's what most of his older fans remember best.  And I agree with you.  An explosion of fun.  Appreciate the comment sir.

31 pages of pencils AND inks by Arthur.  Most of Art's fans know about this issue, of course.  But I think it still gets overshadowed by the Asgardian Wars stuff, and all the X-Men annuals.  Like you, I love this book and I think it's brilliant work.  Thanks for the comment sir.

Don't know how I never commented on this. Probably the best page of the book. Jealous! ❤️
