Description

A terrifically sweet panel by Clark, from December 19, 1944. I love the sweep of the descending staircase, drawn with such apparent ease. And the weight of the children, done with heavier lines and shadows, really anchors the scene. One of the kids states: "They don't show much imagination. Same old hiding place every Christmas!" Sweet, sweet stuff.

As a bonus, there's an unfinished cartoon on the back of this piece, also pictured in this gallery. It's fascinating to see just how loosely Clark penciled his work before inking. There's not much there to go on, but evidently it was plenty!
