DescriptionCover prelim for Amazing Spider-Man #194, featuring the first appearance of the Black Cat. This is one of the earliest pieces of artwork featuring Marvel's Black Cat. I was able to talk to Al Milgrom about this artwork (he did the finished cover art for the issue) and he said he did not do this prelim. He thinks Dave Cockrum was the artist on this prelim. Dave Cockrum was Marvel's main cover artist in the late 70s, and he also did the design work for Black Cat, so as near as I can tell this was done by Cockrum.Social/Sharing |

Ultimate Coolness!!! I love prelims and this is so well done! Spidey and Black Cat look phenomenal. Released in '79, right? What a score..congratulations!! I would imagine that the history of this piece is just as priceless as this prelim.

I too just love prelims (wish I had any) and this is indeed an example of a prelim that works on all fronts: composition, black and white balance, character expression, etc... In other word - Cockrum shows once again why he became such a legend. A true master at work ! Congrats on a fantastic addition to your collection !

What a great acquisition and piece of history! Very rare for these to be saved. Great stuff. Makes me miss Dave even more. I'm glad this great bit of his past is being preserved. Congrats!

Great Prelim! Yeah, that's definitely Cockrum's work. I have a collection of his prelims and his style is very distinctive.
